Fairmount, the latest release from LUMAMA, is a deeply personal and collaborative work that reflects the bond between its members.

Fairmount is comprised of five songs, each named after a member of the band. Each tune began as a study of how guitarist Luis Salcedo pronounces that friend's name, exploring how timbre, inflection, rhythmic emphasis, and syncopation can compress a wealth of feeling and familiarity into just a few syllables.

SP for Sam Priven, NB for Nathan Bickart, MR for Matt Roads, and MW for Marshall Williams. The exception is LS, a self-portrait in which each close friend was given a unique musical phrase inspired by their own way of phrasing Luis Salcedo's name.

Fairmount was composed and recorded during the COVID-19 pandemic, a time that challenged, yet through it all, inspired artists. The core band members recorded their parts based on demos created by Salcedo, and then those same demos were sent to fourteen collaborators who were instructed to personally engage with the music in a playful and unique way. The resulting recordings were weaved together to create the final product.

Through their shared experiences and creative process, LUMAMA has crafted a modern jazz album that is both introspective and engaging. Fairmount showcases the exceptional musicianship of the band's core members, as well as the diverse contributions of their collaborators.This album is a celebration of friendship, creativity, and the power of music to bring people together.
